Welcome
Jo Mabbutt is a Decorative Artist, Tutor and Speaker.
Jo is a decorative artist who hand-gilds antique and vintage lace and crochet, working to commission and selling through galleries and exhibitions. She brings new life to preloved items to create contemporary framed pieces and prints, jewellery, cards and Christmas decorations.
She has collaborated with other designers on unique fashion clothing, accessories, jewellery and millinery. Commission work includes gilding and framing clients’ treasured lace and wedding anniversaries. Call or email me to discuss your requirements or view the gallery to see examples of my work.
Jo leads workshops in specialist gilding techniques for both artists and crafters (paper-based and textiles) and her new course focuses on the gilding of plants – fresh, dried, pressed etc.
Jo gives talks and lectures to The Arts Society, private societies and other associations, and her speaking engagements cover a range of subjects, including talks on her own work to embroidery and textiles groups.
Upcycling antique lace, vintage crochet and tatting by refashioning into precious pieces really appeals to me. I also use most items as a printing medium which leads to intriguing prints and textures which are often enhanced with variegated gold and copper leaf.
